My Story - M.D. Champion

Like any other girl, I had my hobbies; of course, mine involved werewolves, fantastical lands, and lots of used notebooks. So maybe I’m not like every other girl out there, but here’s the thing - I love what I do!

Growing up, I always lived on the poor side of town. My parents did their best, they gave me everything I needed…but I wanted more. I wanted an escape from the boring classrooms that never filled my appetite for knowledge, a way out from the bullies that would steal the books from my hands and throw them in the garbage, and most of all, the mundane people that littered my neighborhood streets. So I gave myself just that.

When I was 16, I had been going through a rough time. I had nightmares every night and constant headaches/ migraines throughout the day; needless to say, I was not a happy camper. But the way I coped with it was to write and I haven’t stopped since. For Blood Bound in particular, it started with a strange dream and then blossomed into a world that allowed the escape I had always dreamt of.

I wrote other stories, of course, but it was with this series that I learned what I truly wanted in life. It became my awakening, or a reality check if you will. At 19, though, is when I became serious about my dream. In October of 2017, I sat down and poured my heart into the series that will become my debut novel. All through NANOWRIMO that year and the next in 2018, I wrote with every fiber of my being hoping one day that I will be able to hold it in my hands.

Now, in 2019, I am editing my novel with a heavy heart for all the words I have to cut but am ultimately happy for the end result it will produce. To all of you reading this, I have one thing to say: Never Stop Writing! Whether the words are garbage or gold, do not stop. Keep going, keep pushing, keep learning, and always write what is in your heart. You have to learn somehow.
